Holland's Training Blog
Welcome to my Blog. This is my first attempt at keeping one, my reasons for keeping this Blog are as follows 1. To clearly see my progress in my training as I will be keeping up to date records. 2. To help others with their own training by recording my exercises and goals and giving tips and ideas. 3. To help me reach my own goals, because if I put my goals for all to see then I have to achieve them. 4. I enjoy adding stuff to this site. Goals: I am writing this two days after my last competition. As a team, we came home with a silver medal, which was great but my performance in the individual rounds could have been better. Having a little more mat time than my last competition I came away learning a great deal, learning about myself and other fighters. So this experience has lead me to a long term goal, the thing with achieving goals is to break them down into smaller goals and reach these one at a time. My long term goal is to win an individual gold medal in any karate event. To achieve this I have set myself smaller targets to reach. 1. Lose at least half a stone, at present I weigh 16 stone and want to reach 15 1/2 stone. 2. Improve my fitness 3. Enter competitions on a regular basis I will try to update this Blog on a daily or weekly basis until my goals have been reached. Friday 6th July 2007 Went boxing today with Vince the gym owner and friend, used a great gym in Northampton, which has its own boxing room with ring and every sort of bag you need. Done five rounds skipping as a warm up and lots of rounds on different bags and then done some sparring with Vince. Great workout and I will try and fit these sessions back into my weekly routine. Thursday 5th July 2007 Stayed up late last night watching a film on sky, So that stopped me doing my morning run. Went to the gym in the afternoon. 5 mile run on the treadmill tried to do this quickly but it didn't work out any faster than normal and at the end I was worn out. Running times - Here Had half hours rest and hit the weights. Bench press Clean and jerks Shoulder press Dips No training tonight as I have to go to work right from teaching. Wednesday 4th July 2007 Went down to do my training at the track and there was a school sports day taken place there. So I instead trained across the road using the field and play park, ran around the field to warm up and then practised my kata, started off on the field but the ground was soaked through and I was flicking mud all over myself. So I moved to the playground, worked through all my kata as a warm up and then practised them fast and strong without rest in between, this got up a good sweat and my heart rate pumping. Used the play ground equipment to perform different exercises, including Press ups, Burpees, Squat jumps, Step ups, Chin ups. It then start to chuck it down with rain but I finished just in time. Tuesday 3rd July 2007 Running first thing this morning, not the best time but i always take the first one of the week slow. To see my running times click - Here Gym session this afternoon. Chins Squats Bicep workout using giant set principle. (three exercises straight after each other) to see weight training exercises click - Here Karate this evening joined in and had a good cardio workout, sparring, pad work and plenty of exercises. A good days training. Monday 2nd July 2007 Started my week yesterday really as I got bored and went to the gym, meet with a old friend of mine and worked just about every muscle we could think of. Saved myself all day for my evening karate session, and ended up teaching the class. So my workout went out the window, will work hard tomorrow.
