Holland's Training Blog
Welcome to my Blog. This is my first attempt at keeping one, my reasons for keeping this Blog are as follows 1. To clearly see my progress in my training as I will be keeping up to date records. 2. To help others with their own training by recording my exercises and goals and giving tips and ideas. 3. To help me reach my own goals, because if I put my goals for all to see then I have to achieve them. 4. I enjoy adding stuff to this site. Goals: I am writing this two days after my last competition. As a team, we came home with a silver medal, which was great but my performance in the individual rounds could have been better. Having a little more mat time than my last competition I came away learning a great deal, learning about myself and other fighters. So this experience has lead me to a long term goal, the thing with achieving goals is to break them down into smaller goals and reach these one at a time. My long term goal is to win an individual gold medal in any karate event. To achieve this I have set myself smaller targets to reach. 1. Lose at least half a stone, at present I weigh 16 stone and want to reach 15 1/2 stone. 2. Improve my fitness 3. Enter competitions on a regular basis I will try to update this Blog on a daily or weekly basis until my goals have been reached. Friday June 8th 2007 In the gym again at 5.30, 40 minutes on the treadmill using the hill setting. This setting will start with a warm up and then rise to a set incline for one minute and then flatten out for one minute, given you a easy rest. This is a very intense way to work out and my heart rate stayed high throughout. finished with 100 press-ups in 3 sets and 100 sit-ups as 1 set. also had a good stretch. That is me now until Sunday at the BKA squad session, will rest tomorrow. Thursday June 7th 2007 In the gym again this morning, 5.30am workout. 45 minutes on the cross trainer keeping my heart rate at 125bpm. rested until around 9am and then done my weight training. Bench press clean and jerks shoulder press dips All with warm up sets and the 3 working sets. No squad session tonight as we are in Manchester training on Sunday. Wednesday 6th June 2007 Working in the gym this week, opens at 6.30 so made to extra effort to get there at 5.30 and done 45 minute cardio workout. A treadmill run is not as good as actually going out for a real run but got me sweaty, tried to keep my heart rate at 120 bpm which I managed as it is easier to monitor on the treadmill, turned out to be a real easy pace which suited me as also have karate today. Finished this off with just a few press-ups and sit-ups. 115 press-ups Set 1 = 35 reps Set 2 = 25 reps Set 3 = 25 reps Set 4 = 25 reps Sit-ups one set off 150 reps Karate this evening was fairly easy pace as we are in Manchester on Sunday training with the Bka. Covered competition techniques with one on one work whilst moving as if fighting, although not the hardest of sessions I got a good sweat up and enjoyed myself. My diet today has been a little hit and miss as I have been working and it is a little harder to prepare all my meals. To see today's diet click - Here
Tuesday 5th June 2007 7am went for my 5 mile run felt really good today and enjoyed doing it. To see my running times click - Here Next was a weights workout at the gym. Chins 4 set using less weight each set, the final set was with no help managed only 5 reps Squats 4 sets increasing the weight with each set maximum 10 reps with 80kg Bicep curls using a type of exercise called 21's you use a barbell and do the first half of the movement 7 times then you do the second half of the movement 7 times and finally you do the full movement 7 times, giving you a total of 21 reps. This is a very intense way of training and i was wiped out after 4 sets. Monday 4th June Just karate for me today, was planning to do my run this morning but felt tried. Had a good stretch in the kids class so I was ready for the adults session. Shane took the session, starting with very light sparring to get us warm and then leading into basics. We also pushed out press ups, sit ups, squats, squat thrusts, star jumps. After some more light sparring we finished with kata, trying to perform as if we were competing, I am afraid I would have lost tonight.
