Below are the minimum you will need to do for your grading, The examiner at his choosing may ask you to perform techniques or combinations that are higher than required by your belt to use as additional information during the assessment. This also includes doing any kata or technique from previous belt.

Passes are awarded in 3 levels 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1st being the highest and in exceptional circumstances a belt beyond that for which you are grading may be awarded.

As well as techniques, attendance, behaviour, effort and attitude will be considered as elements of your grading!

Later belts instructions will only be given in Japanese as understanding commands in Japanese is also an element of your grading!

Please bring ALL your safety equipment to all of your gradings as you may be asked to spar at any grade level!

Gradings are approximately every 3 months, 4 times a year and can be held at different venues and times. You should be informed by your instructor, news letter, email and this website of dates and times of gradings. Only in very exceptional circumstances will gradings be performed outside of these times.

Do not be tempted to rush your gradings as taking a grading especially at higher levels is no guarantee to pass. As a guide there should be 40 hours of training between gradings, so if you only train for 1 hour a week this could be nearly a year between gradings. Students who fail a grading are entitled to a free re-grading. However this does not have to be at the very next grading.
